Despite the late hour, a man appeared immediately at the front door when Micah parked. He was tall and intimidating with weathered skin and eyes like pale smoky quartz.

“Chace,” he growled.

Micah caught his scent and tensed. “You’re Trinity March?” he asked.

“Yes.” The man walked up to him and offered his hand, making it clear he didn’t want any trouble.

“Micah Danvers.” Micah shook his hand.

Trinity’s gaze returned to Chace, who was now slouched next to the car. “What the hell did you get up to?”

Chace strode for the house without answering. The door slammed.

“He said he was at a party at Deke’s,” Micah said. “His father is out of town?” Trinity’s eyes darkened. “Lucky for Chace. The old man has a heavy hand when it comes to his kid. He’ll be safe with me, Deputy.” Micah read Trinity’s protective body language and nodded. “Deke is not good company for him.”

“No.” Trinity frowned. “You look familiar.”

“I’m not.”

Trinity hesitated. “You’re not part of the new pack?” Micah felt curiosity prick. There was a new pack? But he didn’t ask. He’d told Cody the truth. He wanted nothing to do with other shifters.

“A lone wolf, like me.” Trinity nodded, as if he understood Micah’s preference to go it alone. “I’m going to talk to Chace.”

“Good luck with that.”

“Chace is a good kid but his father rides roughshod over him,” Trinity said. “He’s looking for his own voice, to be his own man.”

“Hanging out with guys like Deke isn’t the way.”

“I know it. Thanks for bringing him home. I was just going out to look for him.”

“Glad to save you the trouble.”
